The asphalt calculator formula

Every estimate starts with the same simple idea: find the area, multiply by thickness to get the volume, then convert that volume into tons using the mix's density. Most people use an asphalt calculator by square feet — measuring length and width — and for a rectangle that's exactly right: area is length × width. For a circle it's πr², and for a triangle it's base × height ÷ 2. Multiply by your pavement thickness and you have the volume.

Asphalt is a paving material made from aggregates — crushed rock, sand and gravel — bound together with a bitumen binder. Hot mix asphalt (HMA) is mixed and laid at high temperature, then compacted into a dense, durable surface used for driveways, roads, parking lots and airfields.
